What is putting on a facade?

Putting on a facade means presenting oneself in a way that is not completely genuine or authentic. It can involve pretending to be someone or something one is not, or hiding one's true feelings or intentions behind a mask of false emotions or behavior. Facades are often employed in social situations where the individual wishes to appear more successful, attractive, or likable than he or she actually feels. Facades can be harmful when they prevent individuals from expressing their true selves and connecting with others on a deeper level. They can also be exhausting to maintain, causing stress and anxiety.
